Attachments - Canopies
(Revised:
10/06/15)
The Canopy tab is used to
locate and define At Eave or Below Eave Canopies.
This feature has automated flexibility enabling you
to modify the size of the shape or the frame locations without losing the canopy
data.
Exception: If a Predefined Shape is revised to a
different shape, all located and defined canopies will be removed with the
original shape.
Canopies
can be located full span or partial span, dimensioned from the edge of a wall
or from any existing frame line.
Additional
adjustments for extending canopies into roof extensions and skewing the corner
options are available.
Size:
Enter
the horizontal dimension that the canopy projects from the wall (the building
line).
This
is dimensioned to the out of the steel structure, not to the out of trim or
flashing.
Enter
the Canopy Roof Pitch.
Negative
pitches are used for canopies that project upward from the main shape.
This
option is not available with Piggy Back Canopies and is also not available with
the Match Roof Pitch Option.
For Imperial = Pitch:12
For Metric = Pitch:10
This
checkbox will set the canopy style to Piggy Back, if applicable (if it is not
located at a valid Piggy Back location, a standard canopy will be designed).
Piggy
Back Canopies can be located at the eave of most
sidewalls and the beams will be located in the purlin line.
At
End walls or with Bar Joist roofs, the Piggy Back Canopy will be replaced with
a built-up canopy.
The
Canopy Eave Elevation options on the screen are disabled when the Piggy Back
Canopy option is checked.
Canopy Eave
Elevation:
This
option specifies where the height of the canopy is measured to (from the base
of the shape).
The
'At Eave' option will match the eave height along the wall.
The
Height edit box will be disabled.
This
checkbox will match the canopy roof pitch to the pitch of the main roof above
the selected wall.
If
the Canopy were located on the high side of a single slope, the canopy would
follow the roof and be upswept.
Sets
the height of the canopy as measured from the base of the shape to top of the
canopy eave structural.
Sets
the height of the canopy as measured from the base of the shape to the
intersection point of the wall building line (outside of girts) and the canopy
roof building line (top of purlins).
Enter
the vertical height of the canopy measured from the base of the shape.
If
it is measured to the 'End of Canopy' then this dimension is to the outer edge
of the canopy.
This
is dimensioned to the out of the steel structure, not to the out of the panel,
trim or flashing.
If
it is measured to the 'Building Line', then this dimension is to the intersection
of the steel structure planes (canopy purlin line and wall girt line), not to
the out of the panel, trim or flashing.
For
at-eave canopies, the match main roof panel is automatically selected.
This
helps prevent the main roof from being different than the at- eave canopy roof.
For at eave canopies, this
check box will match the canopy secondary depth with the main roof secondary
depth.
This helps prevent the at-eave
canopy secondary from being different than the main roof secondary.
Location:
This
radio button sets the overall length of the canopy to the entire length of the
wall.
Adjustment
and skew options are available for span alterations.
This
radio button sets the overall length of the canopy to differ from the entire
length of the wall.
Additional
dimensioning options are activated including start and end options.
Adjustment
and skew options are still available for span alterations.
Extensions:
Start
Dimension:
This
option is active with the Partial Span option.
When
selected, the Start Dimension of the canopy will be dimensioned from the left
hand edge of the wall as you are standing outside the building facing the
selected wall.
Enter
the dimension from the Left Edge or Frame Line to the beginning of the canopy.
A
positive dimension moves the left edge of the canopy toward the right edge. A
negative dimension moves the left edge of the canopy away from the right edge.
This option is active with the Partial Span option.
When selected, the Start Dimension of the canopy
will be dimensioned from the centerline of the frame selected.
A Start Extension may be required.
From this drop list, select the frame line number
that will be used to locate the end of the canopy.
Notes:
Frames are numbered 1, 2, 3, etc. from
the left edge as you are facing the selected wall, with frame 1 being the left
most frame.
Enter
the dimension from the Left Edge or Frame Line to the beginning edge of the end
of the canopy.
A
positive dimension extends the left end of the canopy.
A
negative dimension decreases the left end of the canopy.
Enter
the dimension from the Extension to the beginning of the skewing of the end of
the canopy.
A
positive dimension skews the end of the canopy in toward the building from the
canopy line.
A
negative dimension skews the end of the canopy outward from the building at the
canopy line.
End Dimension:
This
option is active with the Partial Span option.
When
selected, the End Dimension of the canopy will be dimensioned from the Start
Dimension.
This
radio button is active with the Partial Span option.
When
selected, the End Dimension of the canopy will be dimensioned from the right
hand edge of the wall as you are standing outside the building facing the
selected wall.
Enter
the dimension from the Right Edge or Frame Line to the end of the canopy.
A
positive dimension moves the right edge of the canopy toward the left edge.
A
negative dimension moves the right edge of the canopy away from the left edge.
This option is active with the Partial Span option.
When selected, the End Dimension of the canopy will
be dimensioned from the centerline of the frame selected.
An End Extension may be required.
From this drop list, select the frame line number
that will be used to locate the end of the canopy.
Notes:
Frame lines are numbered 1, 2, 3, etc.
from the left edge as you are facing the selected wall, with frame 1 being the
left most frame.
Enter
the dimension from the Right Edge or Frame Line to the beginning edge of the
end of the canopy.
A
positive dimension extends the right end of the canopy.
A
negative dimension decreases the right end of the canopy.
Enter
the dimension from the Extension to the beginning of the skewing of the end of
the canopy.
A
positive dimension skews the end of the canopy in toward the building from the
canopy line.
A
negative dimension skews the end of the canopy outward from the building at the
canopy line.
