Geometry Tool - Delete Type 10 or 11
Stiffeners (Alt Web)
(Revised: 04/29/20)
Delete Type 10 or 11 Stiffeners (Alt
Web)
Always
consult a Designer before removing a Type 10 or 11 Stiffener.
This option is used to insert a new member 9" away from the Type
3, 9 Stiffener so the haunch member can have a different thickness than the
rest of the member. The haunch web
thickness will be changed to the alternate web thickness provided by frame design.
From the toolbar select the
“Geometry Tools” (hammer icon)
|
1.
Select the Frame that will
have the stiffener
removed from the Active Frame list. 2.
Select the Member ID
that has the Type 10, or
11 stiffener. The screen should show the member
selected. 3.
Select Add
Member – Delete Type 10, 11 Stiffener in the Intersection Methods
box. (When using this option, there is no need to insert lines or select an
element) 4. Select
the Modify Frame check box. 5.
Select the Intersect
button and the intersection points should be shown in the Intersection Points
list and the member should be modified. 6.
The Stiffener should now
be removed and the Alternate Web thickness applied to a new Web Member |
Note: Revise weld size only if required to satisfy min
weld size based on material thicknesses Increase the Knee Plate to Web weld as
necessary to Minimum Weld size based on the thickness
thinner part joined. Example: Web Thk= 1/2, Knee Plate Thk = 3/4, Weld
= Fillet 3/16-2-x-x Example: Web Thk= 5/8, Knee Plate Thk = 1,
Weld = Fillet 1/4-2-x-x |
