Frames - Re-numbering Frames

(Revised: 04/01/08)

This Lesson describes the logic in the Building Editor for re-generating Primary Framing Mark Numbers when the Primary Frame Parts are modified.

There are 3 area’s in the Building Editor that can affect the Frame Mark Numbers: Frames/Data, Frames/Member Data, Re-detailing Secondary.

1.      Frames/Member Data.
Any revision to a member at this level will reset that individual part mark number to 000.

After pressing OK, all the mark numbers that were reset to 000 will be re-numbered.

The revised parts will be compared to all existing parts to see if the mark numbers can be grouped with other like parts.

If the mark number was originally not grouped, and the revisions will still not group with any other part, the mark should revert back to the original number.

Only the parts with 000 can get new numbers.

2.      Frame/Data
The same logic is used when making changes to parts in Frame Data. Though it is less obvious because the affected mark numbers cannot be viewed to see that they are reset to 000.

3.      Re-detailing Secondary
Secondary Member Data revisions that re-detail clip connection / locations to the frame can also cause the Frame Marks to be renumbered.

4.      Sample Frame/Data
The frame part highlighted was revised in Frame Data. Basically (internally) this part mark was reset to 000.

When OK was pressed, the revised part(s) will be compared to all existing parts to see if the mark numbers can be re-grouped. Only the parts with 000 will get new numbers.

.

Note 1) User Frame Parts are also considered for grouping of Unique Mark Number.

Note 2) Some Bracing Mark Numbers are also considered for grouping of Unique Mark Number. Like Portal Frames, Portal Brace Beams.

Note 3) Welds are not used (compared) to create unique mark numbers. So If you have 2 identical beams with only 1 weld size that is different, only 1 mark number will be generated. This includes any special welds or weld notes to any piece (Flanges, Splice Plates, Clips, Stiffeners).
